A total of 253 people were arrested for various drug-related offences during a statewide operation conducted by the Terengganu Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK). The arrests took place from June 26 to 28, with 146 individuals detained for drug abuse, 72 for possession, 29 for trafficking, and six for outstanding warrants.

The operation, known as "Ops Tapis Khas", was carried out in conjunction with the Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin's statement that it demonstrates the commitment of the police and AADK to combating drug abuse. The arrested individuals include five women.

According to data released by the authorities, 72 people aged between 41 and 50 were among those arrested, followed closely by those in their mid-30s (45) and late 40s (44). Other age groups also saw significant numbers of arrests.

During the operation, police seized drugs estimated to be worth RM18,044.60. In addition, 33 addicts were handed over to AADK for treatment and rehabilitation purposes.

This is not an isolated incident in Malaysia; other recent news stories have highlighted issues related to drug abuse, including a surge in mental disorders linked to synthetic drug use among military personnel.
