A 35-year-old man from Fredericksburg, Virginia was arrested on Sunday after allegedly refusing to pay for a meal at a restaurant on North Centre Street in Cumberland. Rodrigo Valentino Silva-Zarabia is charged with second-degree assault, theft of property valued at less than $100, and disorderly conduct.
According to the Cumberland Police Department, officers responded to the restaurant on June 28th after receiving reports of a disturbance and theft. Silva-Zarabia allegedly claimed he had already paid for his meal but was unable to provide proof of payment. He eventually agreed to pay the bill, but while being assisted by an employee, he allegedly assaulted the worker.
Police witnessed the assault and immediately placed Silva-Zarabia under arrest. He was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center before appearing in District Court for a bond hearing, where he was released on his own recognizance.
The Cumberland Police Department has confirmed that the incident occurred at a restaurant on North Centre Street, but did not release further details about the establishment or any potential security measures taken during the incident.
