A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in connection with an incident at Joe's Brewery on November 1, 2025. Dushawn Smith, 23, of Chicago, admitted to being involved in the armed robbery that occurred when a person entered the brewery and presented what appeared to be a firearm.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Joel Fletcher, surveillance video captured the individual who resembled Smith, and witnesses identified him as one of the perpetrators. The vehicle used in the crime was tracked through Campustown, and two witnesses stated they saw Smith with co-defendant Jelani Jackson earlier that night.

As part of a negotiated plea, Smith agreed to testify against Jackson, who is also charged with armed robbery in connection with the incident. Jackson's case has not yet been resolved and will be back in court on August 5 for his next pre-trial date.

Smith was sentenced to 30 months of probation, during which he must complete 100 hours of public service.
