At least 1,430 people were killed and more than 3,200 injured in a pair of powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) has deployed its urban search and rescue team, known as "USA-2," to assist with relief efforts. About 80 personnel from Los Angeles are in Venezuela for at least the next two weeks as part of a U.S. State Department mission. The team is conducting ground and aerial damage assessments, as well as search-and-rescue operations.

According to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, some two dozen countries have sent aid to Venezuela since last week's earthquakes. A total of 24 countries have contributed supplies, including 521 tons of goods, 86 canine units, and over 2,741 members of search, rescue, and support personnel.

The international community has rallied around Venezuela in the aftermath of this disaster. The LACoFD is working alongside Venezuelan teams to locate survivors and provide assistance.
