A tragic incident has occurred on June 30th, 2026, as three wildland firefighters lost their lives battling a wildfire in Colorado while working for the U.S. Forest Service's Kaibab National Forest crew.
According to officials, Nick Hutcherson (27) of Glendale, Arizona, Sydney Watson (26) of Alabama, and Emily Barker (38) of Michigan were conducting initial attack operations on the Knowles Fire when the incident occurred.
The three firefighters were part of the U.S. Wildland Fire Service's Rifle Helitack crew. The cause of their deaths has not been specified in official reports.
