MILWAUKEE, Ore. (KPTV) - Early Monday morning, a family-owned record store and vintage shop known as B-Side Records and Vintage was the target of a burglary that left its owners devastated and forced them to close their doors temporarily.
The incident began around 3 AM when an unknown individual broke into the business through a broken door. The burglar managed to steal cameras, jewelry, and cash before fleeing the scene within ten minutes. Co-owner Rebecca Stavenjord described finding her store in disarray: "Broken glass, empty trays—it’s a horrible feeling," she said.
The burglary caused significant financial damage, with an estimated loss exceeding $5,000. For a small family business that relies on daily operations to meet its expenses, this sudden setback has serious implications for their ability to pay bills and maintain regular services. "It's just our family running the place; it has a huge impact," Stavenjord explained.
B-Side Records and Vintage is well-known in Milwaukie as more than just a store—it serves as a community hub where people gather, socialize, and find solace. The owners emphasized that their establishment provides "a safe space for people to be themselves." Co-owner Jeff Paramchuck added, “We build a safe space for people, and that space has been shattered.”
Milwaukie Police are currently investigating the incident, which marks the first time B-Side Records and Vintage has experienced such an event. The community response so far has been overwhelmingly supportive; Stavenjord initiated a fundraiser to help with recovery efforts, and locals have already begun rallying around the business.
"We’re not going to give up," Stavenjord stated confidently. "Milwaukie is special, and there’s something really special here." She hopes that this incident will only be temporary as she works towards reopening her beloved community space soon.
