CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Thursday morning, June 18, 2026, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man following the killing of Shalonda Hood, a 51-year-old woman who was fatally injured near her home on Ciera Nichole Court in northwest Charlotte.
According to officials, Ms. Hood suffered from traumatic injuries around 9:30 a.m., and officers arrived shortly after reports were made. Anthony Hood Jr., age 27, was apprehended nearby by police and transported to the hospital before being booked into custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Hood Jr. is charged with murder, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, and kidnapping; however, details surrounding the incident remain undisclosed. Police have not confirmed Hood Jr.’s relationship to Shalonda Hood or provided further specifics about the events leading up to her death.
The police major emphasized de-escalation as a key strategy in addressing rising summer crime rates: "De-escalation is what we’re focusing on, resolving situations with words rather than violence," he stated. More than half a dozen officers were dispatched to secure and investigate the scene, which remains under active investigation by CMPD’s Homicide Unit.
