CHICAGO – In a series of violent incidents that unfolded overnight on Monday into Tuesday, three separate shootings occurred in different parts of Chicago's West and Northwest sides. The events left one victim critically wounded and two others with gunshot injuries.
The most severe incident took place around 8:30 p.m. local time near the Schorsch Village neighborhood when a 24-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery on Belmont Avenue. According to police, the suspect approached him with a firearm and demanded his belongings before firing shots that struck the victim in the abdomen. The wounded individual was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.
About two hours later, at approximately 10:35 p.m., another shooting occurred when a 42-year-old rideshare driver sustained a gunshot wound while dropping off passengers near South Central Park Avenue in North Lawndale. Police reported that the driver was shot in his left leg and managed to drive himself to Mount Sinai Hospital where he received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The third incident happened around midnight on Tuesday when a 22-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his back near Lavergne Avenue in Austin. He too was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital but is reported to be in fair condition at this time.
Police investigations are ongoing, and it remains unclear if the victims were targeted or involved in any specific disputes leading up to these incidents. The suspect arrested for the armed robbery has been taken into custody, with pending charges yet to be finalized by prosecutors. Detectives continue their efforts to gather more information regarding all three cases.
