CHICAGO (WLS) -- A violent armed robbery and shooting occurred Monday night in the Montclare neighborhood of Chicago’s Northwest Side. According to police reports, a 28-year-old suspect approached a 24-year-old victim outside on West Belmont Avenue around 8:30 p.m., brandishing a firearm.

The perpetrator demanded the victim's personal belongings before firing shots at him. The victim was struck in his abdomen and sustained critical injuries but survived the attack after being rushed to Loyola Hospital for emergency treatment. No other individuals were reported injured during this incident.

Following the shooting, law enforcement swiftly apprehended the suspect who fled with stolen property from the scene. Area Five detectives are currently handling the investigation, though specific charges against the perpetrator have not yet been disclosed pending further evidence evaluation by authorities.
