A suspect was arrested early Monday after attempting to evade police in Colorado Springs. According to authorities, officers were patrolling the area near Vickers Drive and North Academy Boulevard when they encountered a group of vehicles believed to be related to street racing.

Police attempted to contact the drivers associated with the vehicles but one vehicle drove recklessly out of the parking lot onto North Academy Boulevard at speeds around 80 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. Officers discontinued their attempts to stop the vehicle due to safety risks posed to the community.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Colby Hackney, continued driving northbound and attempted a right turn onto eastbound Galley Road but failed to make the turn. The vehicle crossed all lanes of Galley Road, struck a curb on the northeast corner, became airborne, and crashed into a raised concrete parking lot at a business.

Hackney suffered minor injuries and was detained while his passenger required extrication by firefighters before being taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
