Terrion Arnold, a cornerback for the Detroit Lions and Tallahassee native, was arrested last week in Tampa on allegations that he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men who prosecutors believe he wrongly suspected of having stolen luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him.
According to court documents, Arnold believed the men stole over $200,000 worth of his property during a stay at an Airbnb. He is accused of coordinating with codefendants to lure the men to an apartment where they were held at gunpoint.
A Florida judge set Arnold's bail at $1 million on Monday, and the Detroit Lions released him from their team shortly after. The team did not give a reason for the release.
The Hillsborough County State Attorney's office claims that months of investigative work and collaboration with the Tampa Police Department led to the arrest. "No one has the right to take the law into their own hands," said State Attorney Suzy Lopez in a statement. "A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation."
The defense for Arnold disputes these allegations, stating that there is no credible evidence linking him to the crime and that testimony from convicted felons may be unreliable.
