Richard Phillip Bardouski, a former prison guard at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, has been convicted of child sex crimes in Napa County. A jury found Bardouski guilty of multiple felony counts related to the sexual assault of three family members between 2010 and 2015.

Bardouski was convicted of:

  • Three felony counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10
  • Three felony counts of sexual penetration with a child under 10
  • Four felony counts of lewd or lascivious act upon a child 14 years old or under
  • One felony count of lewd or lascivious act upon a child 14 or 15 years old

The victims were particularly vulnerable due to Bardouski's position of trust as a corrections officer. He used his authority to assault the children, and demonstrated violence, cruelty, viciousness, or callousness in the commission of his crimes.

Bardouski was arrested in Alabama after being tracked down by Napa County detectives with the help of local police. He is currently facing life in prison, starting with an 8-year fixed sentence followed by a minimum of 165 years.

**Background**

The case against Bardouski began when two victims reported that they had been repeatedly sexually assaulted between the ages of four and nine at his Napa home. An investigation revealed that a third family member was also assaulted in 2010, when she was 14. The case went to trial after an eight-day jury deliberation.

Bardouski's conviction is significant due to his long career as a correctional officer. His crimes are considered particularly troubling given the trust he had been placed in by the public and the vulnerability of his victims.
