A 55-year-old man, Brian Richie, has been arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes related to the exploitation of a minor in Jefferson County, Colorado. According to police, Richie was investigated after a child reported being touched inappropriately by him on multiple occasions.
Richie worked for Jeffco Public Schools as a bus driver, facilities maintenance employee, and security guard from 2006 until his full-time employment ended in March 2024. He was rehired as an external consultant in September 2025 but was fired after the district learned of the allegations against him.
The investigation found that Richie had inappropriate images of the victim on his electronic devices dating back seven years. The school district stated that employees are required to undergo a fingerprint-based CBI/FBI background check, which came back clear when he was hired. However, it is unclear if this would have caught any past offenses.
Richie faces multiple charges, including sexual assault on a child by position of trust - pattern of abuse, 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a child - possession (video), and 16 counts of sexual exploitation of a child - possession (images). An arrest warrant was issued for Richie on June 16.
This incident is the second high-profile sex crime case involving Jeffco Public Schools in recent years. In January, Rubel Martinez, another former campus security officer, was convicted of sexually assaulting a student while he held a position of trust.
The school district has stated that the allegations against Richie do not involve any students or incidents occurring at schools within their jurisdiction.
