An 18-year-old York City man has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting that occurred on April 21. Jalen James Shope was arrested and released from custody after posting a $300,000 bond.

According to court documents, the victim called police and reported being shot by his friend, later identified as Shope. Police found a juvenile with a gunshot wound to the left leg at the scene of the shooting on East Clarke Avenue. The victim was transported to WellSpan York Hospital for treatment.

Shope had previously been adjudicated on a weapons charge when he was a juvenile in 2025, making him ineligible to possess a weapon. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of a firearm by someone prohibited from having one.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 30.
