A 41-year-old man from Beloit has been charged with repeatedly sexually assaulting a child over a three-year period. Federico Santiago Cruz is accused of first degree child sexual assault, exposing his genitals, and exposing the child to harmful materials.
According to court records, Cruz appeared in front of Rock County Court Commissioner Mason Braunschweig on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. A jury trial will be set at a later date. If convicted of the most serious charge, first degree sexual assault, Cruz could face up to 60 years in prison.
The alleged abuse occurred between 2020 and 2023 when the child was in Cruz's care. The victim reported the incidents on April 17, prompting an investigation by police.
Cruz remains in custody on a $50,000 cash bond.
