Nashville, TN – On Sunday evening, a tragic incident unfolded in the courtyard at Representative John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street when 12-year-old Damarion Morehead was fatally shot during an altercation involving six to seven individuals. According to Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) detectives, Devin Orr, 24, has been arrested for the shooting.
Homicide investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the scene which showed that a fight broke out over a female individual, and as part of this confrontation, Orr retrieved a handgun from his waistband. As individuals involved in the brawl began to flee, shots were fired, resulting in Morehead being struck by gunfire to the head. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
In an interview following his arrest on Monday morning, Devin Orr admitted to placing a pistol inside a sewer along Charlotte Pike where it was subsequently recovered by law enforcement officials. The weapon has been linked directly to this fatal shooting incident.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced in addressing violent crime within local communities and underscores the need for continued efforts towards prevention and intervention strategies aimed at reducing such tragic outcomes among young individuals.
