A woman from Attukal in the United States has died by suicide on June 26. According to police, Arathi had been subjected to continuous physical and mental abuse by her husband Athul over a period of 10 months.
Athul was arrested on charges of abetment of suicide and domestic violence and has been remanded to judicial custody. Police have found evidence suggesting that Arathi's death was related to the ongoing abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband.
Arathi had written in her suicide note about the physical abuse she endured, stating that no one listened to her when she informed them of the situation. She also mentioned financial exploitation and a lack of love or affection from Athul.
The postmortem examination revealed 17 injuries on Arathi's body. Police are investigating allegations that Athul had previously been in a relationship with another woman who is now deceased.
This incident highlights concerns about domestic abuse and the need for support systems to be in place to prevent such tragedies.
