On June 22, 2026, Lynnwood Police Department (LPD) apprehended an armed suspect involved in a domestic violence incident. The arrest came on the first day of Officer Trudeau’s service with LPD and followed a six-hour manhunt that included the use of K9 Cannon to track down the suspect who had fled into dense shrubbery.

The initial call for assistance was made after the victim, a physically disabled individual, reported being strangled unconscious by her assailant and threatened with a handgun. The suspect fled on foot immediately following the assault, leaving officers with limited information about his whereabouts or direction of travel. K9 Cannon’s keen sense led to the discovery of the suspect hidden inside a blackberry bush where he had concealed himself.

Despite repeated commands from law enforcement, the suspect initially refused to comply and claimed that he was removing an item from his bag. However, after further engagement by officers, he eventually surrendered peacefully. A handgun along with five magazines were found in close proximity to the suspect’s hiding spot, confirming witness reports of him placing a firearm into a bag before fleeing.

The suspect now faces multiple charges including second-degree domestic violence assault with strangulation, felony harassment with threats to kill, interfering with domestic violence reporting, and third-degree theft. LPD also noted that additional weapons-related charges are under investigation but did not provide further details at this time.

“Not a bad first day for Officer Trudeau,” commented the department in their statement regarding his performance during the incident. The successful resolution of such a critical situation on an officer’s debut shift highlights both the training and readiness of LPD personnel to handle high-risk scenarios effectively.
