A 23-year-old man has been charged with domestic violence murder and unlawful possession of a weapon used to commit an indictable offence following the fatal shooting of his partner, Mallorie Jane Roberts, at their home in Biggera Waters on Sunday.
According to police reports, shots were fired at the unit shortly before 8pm, and Roberts was found with gunshot injuries. She died at the scene, leaving behind a baby boy who will grow up without a mother.
Ethan Midgley, 23, was arrested at the scene without incident after allegedly shooting Roberts in the arm and chest with a homemade shotgun. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Police confirmed that Midgley was known to them but no domestic violence orders were in place. Neighbours reported hearing a commotion and saw police attending the residence before the incident occurred.
Roberts' loved ones have remembered her as having "a beautiful heart" and "kind spirit", with one friend setting up an online fundraiser to help with funeral expenses and ongoing support for Roberts' family.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Support services are available from the National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service at 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
