A 52-year-old man, identified as Scott C. Schattl, was found dead in a vehicle on North Kramm Road in rural Brimfield, Illinois, after a multi-county pursuit on Sunday.
According to the Illinois State Police, which is leading the investigation into his death, Schattl had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident began earlier that day when Springfield police responded to a home in the 3400 block of Peoria Road, where they found two adults with gunshot wounds.
One victim, a 33-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries to her face and shoulder, while another, a 42-year-old man, was shot in the arm. Both were taken to St. John's Hospital for treatment.
The suspect is believed to have forcibly entered the residence on Peoria Road and discharged his firearm multiple times before fleeing. A multi-county pursuit ensued when state police troopers found Schattl in Stark County, leading to a chase that ended with his death.
Background: This incident occurred just hours after another shooting incident was reported elsewhere in the United States. The Illinois State Police is investigating both incidents separately.
