A series of suspected arson attacks on a farm in Glinton near Peterborough has left the owner "saddened" and "disappointed". According to Judith Jacob, who owns Moor Farm, six small fires were deliberately started along footpaths and field edges on Sunday at around 21:00 BST.
The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a crew from Dogsthorpe attended one of the blazes on Rectory Lane in Peakirk. The service believes the multiple fires were started intentionally.
Jacob, who has been farming for over three decades, expressed her frustration with the incidents, saying it was "incredibly disappointing" to see someone deliberately set fire to their crops after a year's hard work. She is now considering closing nearby permissive footpaths to prevent further incidents and will be contacting local schools to remind students of the importance of being respectful in rural areas.
The Cambridgeshire Police are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward. The motive behind the attacks remains unclear, but Jacob hopes that the community will pull together to help identify those responsible.
Background: Moor Farm is a third-generation family farm located near Peterborough. This is not the first time arson has been reported in the area, with similar incidents occurring around this time of year.
