In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Nepalese police have arrested over 1,000 suspects in the past month. According to official figures, between mid-May and mid-June, 1,036 individuals were taken into custody across the country for their involvement in drug-related offenses.

The majority of arrests took place in the Kathmandu Valley (169), followed by Koshi Province (212) and Madhes Province (73). The police also seized a substantial amount of illicit substances during this period, including 3,730.265 kilograms of marijuana, 2.686 kilograms of heroin, 93.832 kilograms of opium, and 1.5 kilograms of cocaine.

The crackdown is part of the Nepal Police's efforts to tackle drug trafficking and related crimes. The police have been conducting awareness campaigns under the Community-Police Partnership Programme to highlight the adverse social and personal consequences of drug production, trafficking, and abuse.

In addition to the drug-related arrests, the police also apprehended 2,182 absconding convicts and offenders within the same period, resulting in the enforcement of prison sentences totaling over 807 years. The authorities have prioritized executing court verdicts and arresting fugitives as part of their ongoing efforts to combat crime.
