A person has been found dead after an incident involving firearms in the small King Country town of Te Kūiti on Monday afternoon.
According to police, armed officers responded to a firearms incident on Esplanade at approximately 4:50pm. A cordon was put in place from Ngarongo St to Nettie St while police attended to the situation.
Police have confirmed that one person has been found dead as a result of the incident and the matter will be referred to the Coroner for investigation.
There is no ongoing risk to the public, according to police. All cordons in the area have now been removed.
