On Sunday evening, a man was shot and killed by a police officer in Indiana Borough after he stabbed the officer multiple times with a knife.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on North Cherry Avenue when officers responded to a domestic disturbance call. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Andrew Herman, brandished a shovel at an officer before threatening them with it. A foot pursuit ensued, and during the chase, Herman stabbed the officer in the head and face.
The injured officer then shot and killed Herman at the scene. Herman was pronounced deceased on the spot, while the officer was transported to Indiana Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Their condition is currently unknown.
This incident marks another domestic disturbance call that has turned violent in the area. Neighbor Jamie Cassidy stated that issues at the home have been ongoing for almost two years and that police have responded multiple times.
The investigation into the shooting is being handled by state police, who assure there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
