A man is facing eight felony charges after a hours-long standoff with police in Ripon on June 19, 2026. Jared Thurber, 38, allegedly assaulted and held his roommate captive at knifepoint.

According to court records, the victim was found with serious injuries by police officers who were called to the scene. The victim reported that they had escaped from the home by crawling out of a window after being held overnight by Thurber.

Thurber has an active felony warrant and a history of violence. He allegedly barricaded himself inside the home before SWAT teams from Fond du Lac County and the City of Fond du Lac used less-lethal tools to take him into custody.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say that Thurber faces charges including strangulation and suffocation, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, animal mistreatment, and felony intimidation of a victim. Many of the charges include domestic abuse and repeater enhancers.

Thurber is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a $30,000 cash bond and is due back in court on July 6.
