Jurors have begun deliberating in the Sacramento K Street shooting trial, which involves charges against Deandre Martin and Tulare Payton for their alleged roles in a shootout on April 3, 2022. The incident left six people dead and 12 others injured.

According to court records, the defense has argued that the shooting was an unplanned confrontation between friends who were hanging out, while prosecutors have claimed that gang motivation and animosity toward rival groups fueled the confrontation. Prosecutors also pointed to Payton's alleged ties to a Crip subset that allies with Bloods as evidence of premeditation.

The victims in the shooting include Johntaya "JoJo" Alexander, 21; Melinda Davis, 57; Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21; Sergio Harris, who is considered by prosecutors to be one of the perpetrators rather than a victim; and two others. California law does not consider those who participated in gunbattles resulting in death or injury to be victims.

The trial has been ongoing for months, with both sides presenting evidence and testimony. The defense has argued that prosecutors have relied on conflicting testimony and statements that appeared to be incorrect. It is now up to the jurors to determine whether Martin and Payton are guilty of murder charges.
