SAN DIEGO — An 85-year-old man died at a local hospital on Friday, two days after he was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder and domestic violence. The incident occurred in San Diego where the elderly suspect was taken to a medical facility immediately upon booking due to concerns about his health.

According to Lt. Juan Marquez from the Sheriff’s Office, when the man arrived at the police station for processing Thursday afternoon, he required further medical evaluation by intake staff who then transported him directly to an area hospital. Despite receiving care overnight and into Friday, his condition deteriorated significantly before he passed away just after midnight.

The deceased individual's identity has not been disclosed as of yet; however, a formal investigation is underway under the county’s protocol for in-custody deaths. This involves delegating the case to another agency outside of the Sheriff’s Office to ensure an impartial review. The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and provide official findings regarding both cause and manner of death.

No additional details about the alleged domestic incident or specific medical issues leading up to his arrest have been released by authorities, pending further investigation.
