A 32-year-old man has been indicted on a federal firearm charge in connection with an April shooting in Sioux City's Greenville neighborhood. Deontae Richardson, of Sioux City, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 18 on a charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.

The incident occurred on April 23 near First Street and South Rustin Street. Police were called to the area at around 7:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound. A standoff ensued, and Richardson was eventually taken into custody by the Sioux City Police Department's SWAT team after an hour-long standoff.

Richardson had previously been charged with attempted murder and felon in possession of a firearm by the Woodbury County Attorney's Office, but those charges have since been dismissed. He remains in the custody of the Woodbury County Jail on a federal warrant.

The federal charge is expected to encompass the conduct previously filed in the state charges. Richardson was scheduled to go to trial July 14 before being indicted on the federal charge.
