A 16-year-old has been charged with multiple offenses after a fatal motorcycle crash on Riverview Road in James City County early Sunday morning.
According to police, the teen was driving a car that collided with a motorcycle just before 6am. The motorcyclist, identified as 57-year-old Gilbert Andrea Allen, was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Hospital where he later died.
The 16-year-old has been charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI, unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving after illegally consuming alcohol (under 21), underage possession of alcohol, reckless driving, and failure to maintain control of a vehicle. The teen was not injured in the crash and is currently in custody.
This incident marks one of several recent traffic-related incidents in the area. In May, a child was involved in a hit-and-run incident in York County, while in June, a Tabb High School NJROTC instructor was charged with being drunk on school grounds.
The James City County Police Department has issued corrections to their initial report, stating that the teen charged is 16 years old, not 17 as initially reported.
