LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — On June 21, 2026, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced that two individuals have been arrested and are being held for their suspected involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred on April 1, 2023. The incident took place near Charleston Boulevard and Stewart Avenue around 2:20 AM when gunshots were heard but no immediate victims or suspects were found at the scene.
According to LVMPD homicide detectives, investigators believe multiple people exchanged gunfire from inside two vehicles. Surveillance footage later revealed a black SUV pulling up to a local hospital where four men dropped off an individual with gunshot wounds; this person was identified as 18-year-old Curtis Smith and succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Police have since issued warrants for the arrest of Lynnarion Washington, aged 48, and Jamario Lofton, aged 26. Both are facing felony charges including murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder in connection with criminal gang activity, and discharging firearms at or into occupied vehicles. The stolen vehicle involved—a black 2018 Kia—has been identified by investigators as central to the case.
Washington is currently being held on a $300,000 bond alongside Lofton for their alleged roles in this homicide incident. Additionally, Washington faces another active criminal charge related to firearm possession prohibited under current laws. During a recent court hearing regarding his other charges, records indicate that Washington's defense attorney informed the court of an outstanding murder warrant and his client’s absence due to being on the run.
Lofton has entered a plea of not guilty and is scheduled for further proceedings in July 2026. LVMPD continues to urge anyone with information regarding this case to come forward by contacting their Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521 or via email homicide@lvmpd.com, or through Crime Stoppers anonymously.
This development marks significant progress in the investigation of a crime that has remained under intense scrutiny since its occurrence nearly three years ago.
