DAYTON, NEVADA - Two people were killed Sunday morning when a semi-trailer collided with two passenger vehicles on U.S. 50 near Dayton.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Traditions Parkway near Segale Road. The semi-trailer struck both passenger vehicles, resulting in two fatalities at the scene. A third person was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary statements gathered by authorities suggest that the driver of the semi-trailer may have fallen asleep before the crash. U.S. 50 is currently closed in both directions while investigators work, and traffic is being diverted onto secondary roads.
