Norfolk Police officers were dispatched to a residence on South 16th Street Friday afternoon after receiving reports of an assault at the address. Upon arrival, police spoke with Lyric Brown, a 20-year-old resident who admitted to assaulting his girlfriend and turned himself in to authorities.
The victim, also identified as a 20-year-old Norfolk woman, suffered significant facial injuries including bruising, swelling, lacerations, a fractured nasal bone, hematoma, and moderate concussion. She was transported to Faith Health for medical treatment by emergency personnel who assessed her condition on-site.
According to witness statements collected at the scene, Brown had pushed his girlfriend to the ground before climbing atop her and repeatedly striking her in the face with a closed fist. Following this incident, Brown was arrested and charged with first-degree domestic assault. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail pending transfer to the Madison County Jail.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence within the community and underscores the importance of reporting such incidents promptly for effective intervention by law enforcement agencies.
