NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia court records list two active cases against Asahiah Grimes after a July 18 arrest recorded in Norfolk's public Police Arrest Reports dataset.
The city dataset lists “strangulation of another” as the arrest allegation. Virginia's Online Case Information System lists case JA146256-02-00 under Grimes's name, with a July 17 offense date, a July 18 arrest date and a charge under Virginia Code § 18.2-51.6. The public index describes the allegation as “strangle: wound/injury results.”
A companion case, JA146256-01-00, lists assault and battery against a family or household member under § 18.2-57.2. Both cases were filed July 20 in Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The public index lists a Sept. 17 hearing at 9:30 a.m. in each case.
Virginia law classifies conduct meeting the elements of § 18.2-51.6 and resulting in wounding or bodily injury as a Class 6 felony. Section 18.2-57.2 classifies assault and battery against a family or household member as a Class 1 misdemeanor, subject to enhanced treatment in circumstances specified by the statute.
The records describe pending allegations, not findings of guilt. The public case index lists both matters as active and no disposition. Grimes is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
