Ocean County Prosecutor's Office reported a berkeley township man charged with distribution of child sexual abuse material and possession of child sexual abuse material event near Berkeley Township, NJ on 2026-10-23 08:00:20+00:00.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on October 22, 2026, Robert Shea, II, was charged with Distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. This investigation was the result of a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual was sending/receiving images of child sexual abuse material from the internet utilizing a Snapchat account. An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad and Berkeley Township Police Department identified IP addresses associated with a Berkeley Township residence and an office building in Toms River as the locations from which the individual was accessing and sharing images of child pornography on the internet. That individual was ultimately identified as Shea. On October 22, 2026, Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad and Berkeley Township Police Department executed a court-authorized search warrant on Shea’s residence in Berkeley Township. An initial forensic examination of multiple cellular devices owned by Shea revealed numerous images of child sexual abuse material. On that same date, Detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant on the subject office building in Toms River. An initial forensic examination of a cellular device located at the office and belonging to Shea revealed the Snapchat application used by Shea to distribute the image of child sexual abuse material. This image was also found on Shea’s cellular device. Shea was taken into custody at Berkeley Township Police Headquarters. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing. Prosecutor Billhimer commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad, Berkeley Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, for their collaborative assistance in connection with this investigation. The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
