What Registry Recognizer collects from readers, what it does not, and how the people named in public records can ask for a correction or removal.
No account, no tracking profile
Reading this site requires no account, and Registry Recognizer does not sell personal information or build advertising profiles of its readers. There is no newsletter signup that shares your address with anyone else.
Analytics
Pages load Google Analytics, which records visits, referring pages and general location at city level so we can tell which reporting is read. It sets cookies in your browser. Analytics can be blocked with any ordinary content blocker or browser privacy setting, and the site works normally without it.
Advertising
Third-party vendors, including Google, may serve ads on this site and use cookies or similar identifiers to do so. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites. You can turn off personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices. Registry Recognizer also promotes its own mobile games on some pages; those placements are ours and set no advertising cookies, though the video player they open is served by YouTube under Google's privacy policy.
Information you send us
Email you send to the editorial desk — a correction request, a source, a removal request — is kept only as long as needed to handle it and to keep a record of what was changed and why, which the Corrections policy requires. If you subscribe to crime alert emails, your address is used to send those alerts and nothing else, and every message carries an unsubscribe link. Messages posted in county chat are held in server memory only, are visible to anyone in that room, and are gone when the service restarts; they are never written to a database.
What your browser stores
Alongside the analytics and advertising cookies above, the site keeps small values in your own browser's local storage — a chosen video volume, which promotion you last saw — so it can behave sensibly on your next visit. These never leave your device and clearing site data removes them.
Server logs
Our web server records the usual request information, including IP address, timestamp, requested page and browser identification. It is used to operate the service and investigate abuse.
People named in public records
Most pages here are compiled from government booking, charging, court and registry records. If you are named on one, the Corrections process is the route to a correction, an update reflecting a later outcome, or a removal request. Include the page URL and an authoritative source. An arrest or charge is not a conviction, and dispositions that resolve in your favour are exactly the kind of update we want.
Children
This site publishes crime reporting and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
